Recognizing Math Anxiety

Sharon stated that when she heard her teacher say, “math test” the instructor might as well have said, “impending doom.” Her palms started to sweat, her stomach was in knots, and she began shaking. Then, when the instructor handed out the math test she was overcome with anxiety. Sharon always did her homework in the tutoring lab. When she was working with a tutor everything made sense and she stated that she understood the material clearly.
